this is what i just picked up from the grocery store. it cost $32. Thirty. two. dollars. for 1 pineapple, 2 bags of grapes, a small container of raspberries, 1 soft drink and 2/$1 nuts….
do you know how much junk food i could have for $32? do you have any clue how much McDonald’s you can get for $32?
stop shaming fat people poorer than you or people poorer than you in general for not eating healthier. stop lying about how cheap it is or how it’s comparable to fast food. just stop.
Fresh fruits fucking expensive
this post kinda pisses me off only because raspberries have literally the highest average retail price out of any fruit sold in the united states (and grapes aren’t far behind).
Fresh fruit can be expensive, yes, but it can also be very cheap. for example:
oranges are .56 cents per edible pound
apples are 1.06 per edible pound
mangos are 1.00 per edible pound
honeydew is 0.55 per edible pound
Watermelon is .26 cents per edible pound
bananas are .45 per edible pound
there’s a full study from the USDA here (although it is from 2009 so the prices admittedly have risen slightly, although some have fallen)
you can get a ton of fruit for a great value, although its probably not gonna be raspberries and grapes. i get what this post is trying to say, because yes, it is easier, and depending on the fruit, cheaper to just buy a bunch of bags of chips and call it a day, but some of the claims are incredibly exaggerated to prove this point.
